On the 2nd of September
2021, the Chamber of Senators in Mexico passed the bill to prohibit the use of
animals for cosmetics testing. The bill stipulates that cosmetic product cannot
be manufactured, imported, or marketed when their final production go through animal
testing or contains ingredients that have been subjected to animal testing or
both.
This makes Mexico the first country
in North America to implement a complete ban on animal testing for cosmetics. Due
to this new policy, manufacturers and importers have to indicate on their
products’ packaging that no animal testing was done. Sanctions will be applied
for those who violate this ban.
